The Gugulethu Wine Festival

Visitors to last year’s inaugural event reported that it was one of the most enjoyable wine festivals of the year and the 2012 Gugulethu Wine Festival promises to be even bigger and better.

Taking place on the rooftop of Gugulethu Square Mall, The Gugulethu Wine Festival will host 50 wineries that collectively will supply 250 to 300 wines for visitors to taste. This year, organisers have doubled the size of the main wine exhibitors’ marquee, and expect at least 3000 visitors over the two nights.

"Our TOPS Gugulethu Wine Festival belongs to the people; it is for the people because we have grown it from the seed of an idea to this amazing experience that uplifts everyone who visits it or is involved in it,” said Mzoli Ngcawuzele (owner of Mzoli’s), who founded the festival with Lungile Mbalo last year. Organisers say they aim to help grow the local wine market, enhance Gugulethu as a tourist destination, and create awareness about wine brands.

In addition to the tastings, there will free wine and food pairing classes hosted by Nederburg, a large food court sponsored by TOPS at Spar, with stalls from local restaurants and live entertainment including DJs from Heart FM.

Do you  live in the CBD? There will also be return coach trips from Cape Town city centre for the festival.

Date: Friday 25 May 2012 from 4pm-9pm and Saturday 26 May 2012 from 3pm – 9pm.
Tickets: R80 through Webtickets
