New look, new chef at Cloete's

Cloete's restaurant at the stately Alphen Hotel in Constantia, has recently received a refreshing make-over - and boasts a brand new chef to boot.

As the sensitive refurbishment has restored the beautiful interior of this original Cape Dutch manor house to its former glory, newly appointed executive chef, Simon Kemp, aims to continue the establishment's longstanding history of fine dining with his contemporary spin on classic cuisine.

Diners can expect a sprinkling of Asian and African flavours on the new menu, with the likes of roasted duck springrolls with plum and sesame dip, and tom yum mussels with coconut, lemon grass, ginger and coriander featuring as starters.

Main courses cater to diverse tastes with anything from grilled line fish with crayfish butter and chardonnay cream, to venison loin served with a brie and walnut melt, sweet potato springrolls and fig syrup, while a selection of Cape cheese and classic desserts such as crème brûlée and malva pudding completes the experience.
