Abigail’s Diary
Wednesday 9am: My week of me ...

What a way to spend a Friday afternoon! There I was, standing in the One & Only hotel foyer in Cape Town (my car had been whisked away by a valet. I don’t know how I got that one right – it’s certainly not a Rolls Royce!) when I felt an electric energy. I was at the hotel to meet the celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsey (of maze) and Nobu (of Nobu fame).

Of course, I was already nervous enough about meeting these famous foodies when I realised that I was standing next to two pairs of sky-high, super-sexy shoes. It was Thandi Newton and Mariah Carey! I was starstruck – a food-only groupie suddenly turned celeb groupie.

Then something even more special happened. Nelson Mandela made a grand entrance – he was attending an exclusive lunch at the venue. It’s not often a food groupie gets this incredible opportunity and I’m still whirling around telling everyone I can about my surreal experience.

Meeting Gordon and Nobu was “super cool” (as one of my colleagues described it), but for me it was also an honour. Gordon was on top form and charmed us for a whole three minutes and Nobu was a warm and humble man.

Oh, and one last thing. I passed Marisa Tomei in the hotel boutique and bumped into Sharon Stone in the toilets. After all that, I really do have my dream job (and I am eating at Nobu tonight)!

Happy eating
