Food:

Harald Bresselschmidt has built up a reputation for championing South African produce and deserves significant praise for doing so. Sensational dishes like ostrich and scallop tartare are kept relatively small, but with such rich flavours there is no need for more. Presentation is a priority, and deserves special mention, as does the chef’s vegetarian offerings, all of which are far superior to most restaurants. Who wouldn’t enjoy a risotto boasting gorgeous Kalahari truffles?

Wine:

Arguably the best in South Africa, the Aubergine winelist has been created with the clear intention of adding to the dining experience. The major South African wine regions are all represented, with foreign wines (most notably the German varieties) also making an appearance. A phenomenal compilation.

Service:

As you would expect, it is out of the top drawer. Highly efficient, without being snooty. The sommelier will gladly offer advice on what wine could add to your experience.

Ambience:

Tastefully African. Clean lines, white linen and expensive stemware ensure this.

And...:

And… Highlighting his passion for flavour combinations, Harald has opened another venue, Auslese, which solely offers food and wine pairings. (AF, September 2010)
