Food:

You want old-school, authentic Italian posters and paraphernalia lining the bar? You’ll get it all and a whole lot more at this Hout Bay institution where locals are greeted by name, where photographs of parties and wine-fuelled get-togethers line the walls and where the pastas and pizzas (and veal dishes, don’t forget the veal) are the real deal. In true-trattoria style, there’s plenty of red and white, the fettucine and linguine are made on site and offerings like their moreish bruschetta and mozzarella are made with the freshest ingredients. The fettucini Luigi with spinach, bacon, mushrooms, ham and a creamy tomato sauce is outstanding and the tiramisu is fab too.

Wine:

Plenty of local and Italian liquid offerings as well as choices from smaller estates to satisfy the wide array of menu offerings. It also has Prosecco.

Service:

Friendly and enthusiastic with a good handle on the menu.Come the busy sessions (like Sunday lunch) things can get frenetic.

Ambience:

If you’re looking for a real-deal trattoria experience – you’ve come to the right place.

And...:

If you’re lucky owner Tony Nero will break into Italian song at your table. (VS, September 2010)
