A family hotel with fabulous mountain views, the Magoebaskloof Hotel has changed with the times – it’s much more vibrant and busy – but the Tlou Restaurant still offers old favourites and has both an à la carte and table d’hôte menu, and the most popular dish here, for good reason, is the Magoebaskloof Pot. This has tournedos of beef on spätzle, Bavarian-style noodles, and is served in a miniature three-legged black pot. Your choice is pretty wide. The meat dishes, such as grills and steaks are excellent, and you can help yourself from the salad and starter buffet which features fresh herbs and seasonal ingredients like avos, potatoes, trout and sub-tropical fruit. There’s a carvery on Sundays. A separate children’s menu is available. (BHB)
