Owner's description

At La Madeleine we do not have a written menu. Rather we treat customers to the personal attention of Chef Leusch who visits each table individually to describe the ever changing specials of the day. Value for money is extremely important to us at La Madeleine and while individual items will vary in cost the average price range for starters is approximately R65 – R85 while main meals are R160 – R190 and desserts are R50 – R60. Our ever popular Sunday lunch three course set menu is R195 per head.

My husband took me here for my 28th birthday! I asked surprise me with good food and a romantic atmosphere. The food was divine, we paired a lovely special wine of ours (Grande Provence Cabernet Sauvignon 2008) which is my all time favourite wine. The chef came to say hi and we discussed her passion for food (and mine) and were elated to see how confortable, nice and down to earth she is. We had a 3 course dinner in the higest of ranks. Annd the atmosphere was woneerfully cosy in the middle of winter! Will definitely return here someday!
Quant little french hide away with great French food at an affordable price
Stunning and cozy setting, personalized service - feel super special that the Chef explains all the dishes, refreshing not to look at a menu. The food and drinks suggested by the Chef and waiters to pair are always spot on and absolutely delicious and well presented. The waiters are fantastic and it never feels as if they overdo or overlook anything. Wish I could go once a week but cannot afford it. Considering the quality of the food and everything that goes with it, it is understandable that it doesn't come cheap.
Always the most tender steak and great service.
The restaurant is like something out of the eighties. And not in a good way. Zero ambiance and looks like your granny's lounge. This appears to be run from someone's house with decor that has not been updated since the place opened. The smell of burnt fish permeated the place, while waiters took us to a table we did not want and did not book.

Amazing that this bistro can have any positive reviews. It's a restaurant that can only exist in 1980s South Africa, where nobody's ever had an actual gourmet experience. To the owner: food is one thing, but ambiance is also important. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Avoid like the plague.
