The Stellenbosch store of this Douw Krugmann-owned chain offers an above average experience. An à la carte menu has a range from the traditional (hake and chips) to the more adventurous. The latter is great for anyone who fancies themselves a culinary explorer, particularly when it comes to the robata grill, a newfangled concept that follows the Japanese principle of robata (by the fi reside). Appetiser-size portions allow you to feast on a variety of dishes prepared over wood coals and served with authentic Japanese sauces and condiments. The teppanyaki-style prawns are sumptuous. And you’re safe to order something other than seafood as there is a good range of meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes. Of course, the sushi is a crowd-puller, and for good reason too. On the wine side, connoisseurs won’t be disappointed. CTFM is regularly one of the top fi ve buyers at the annual Nederburg Auction of fi ne wines. (C&MR)
