Food:

Passing travellers can rarely resist the opportunity to grab a plate of wonderful home-cooked fare from the kitchen of owner Ilse Vos. The generous ‘blackpan’ breakfasts are legendary, as are the flaky pies of curry chicken and rich steak. Amongst the daily specials of oxtail and lamb bredie there’s also plenty for vegetarians, with rich lentil bakes and savoury pancakes on offer.

Wine:

A small and well-priced range from local wineries, all available by the glass and at good prices.

Service:

Ilse is always around, so you’re assured of a warm welcome.

Ambience:

On a sunny day it’s hard to beat the terrace tables under the hodgepodge of antiques, but there are cosy tables indoors too.

And...:

There are wonderful preserves and home-bakes to take home with you too. Ilse’s ginger beer is stunning. (RH, October 2011)
