Food:

Embracing the bistro feel, the chalkboard menu offers rustic seasonal dishes that have French roots with an occasional Asian and South African flourish. The starters are especially enticing, with the likes of French onion soup topped by gratinated crostini, or chilli-salted squid with aioli. Heartier mains include the likes of lamb shank with pommes purée. Ingredients and execution can occasionally be hit and miss though.

Wine:

A sizeable list of both pocket-friendly local cellars and top estates from further afield. The good stemware is a bonus.

Service:

The perfect fit for this upmarket bistro: friendly and efficient.

Ambience:

Delightful country feel in the main restaurant and at garden tables under the oaks. A wood-burning stove, chalkboards and chic tablecloths complete the picture.

And...:

There is a selection of local olive products for sale. Stock up on your way out. (RH, October 2011)
