Twelve hectares of an Eden-like garden, that includes sweeping lawns, ponds, a waterfall and exotic and indigenous fl ora, make this an idyllic setting for a meal in either the formal dining room of this boutique hotel or on the more casual terrace. Make a Sunday of it. Start with mid-morning tea, Earl Grey preferably, and buttery scones and cream. Then take a leisurely stroll around the garden and work up an appetite for a buffet lunch with a menu that changes weekly. Follow that with coffee on the terrace. Alternatively you can dine off an à la carte menu. Start with roasted pear, gorgonzola and rocket salad dressed in walnut pesto. Go on to roasted rack of rosemary and mustard-crusted Natal lamb and end with a decadent sticky toffee pudding. A good wine list offering a variety of options chosen to complement the food, with champagnes and sparkling wines available, as well as a few wines by the glass. Prices will keep locals and overseas guests happy. (IMS)
