Food:

Pork belly has become a popular dish on restaurant menus, but this version is paired with perfectly cooked liver and a quince purée, which provides a light fruit counterpoint to the richness. A lighter main course option is the smoked salmon risotto, which, while tasty and intense, retained the right amount of bite and texture. The menu changes frequently to reflect the seasonal produce available, as befits a country kitchen.

Wine:

Mont Rochelle only – but the meal can be turned into a food and wine pairing exercise with tasters of the full range on offer.

Service:

Attuned to diners’ needs for either attention or privacy. Very knowledgeable about the menu items.

Ambience:

While the outdoor patio evokes the beauty of the vineyard, the interior can be cosy in winter (courtesy of crackling fire) and cool and airy with its terracotta flagstones in summer.

And...:

Try your hand at the French game of boules or pétanque to while away a lazy afternoon. It's fun for the whole family and you need neither athletic ability nor skill. (FM, October 2011)
