Food:

Obviously it’s all about the meat. This is a carnivore’s paradise; the veggies on the side definitely play second fiddle to the main attraction. Start with a range of carpaccios (game or beef), veal tongue, biltong salad, or fabulous steak tartare, lightly seared. Go on to the signature dish: superb slow-baked lamb shoulder ravioli with sage butter. It’s unforgettable. Or try any of the steaks cut any way you like it. Finish off with the zuppa inglese, an Italian trifle.

Wine:

A vast list, heftily priced, with some superb Cape wines and an Italian or two.

Service:

Slick and professional; very upmarket.

Ambience:

The setting is semi-industrial with plenty of brick and unadorned walls – just the place to do business. Owner, legendary restaurateur Giorgio Nava, keeps a smooth Milanese eye on things from his place across the road, 95 Keerom.

And...:

Park in Queen Victoria Street, around the corner. (GL, October 2011)
