Karoo Cattle and Land (Fourways)

Food:

Although there are other choices, meat reigns supreme in this establishment, whether you go for the homemade boerewors with its secret recipe, flame-grilled lamb chops served as they would be in the Karoo, and big cuts of steak. You’d also do well to try the uniquely South African fare such as bobotie, tomato bredie, Durban curry, lamb pie and malva pudding served with lashings of custard. Children are welcome and get special half-price dishes, which are marked on the menu.

Wine:

A comprehensive wine list with some excellent reds and a few Italian imports.

Service:

Efficient and helpful.

Ambience:

A warm interior with a distinctively South African touch.

And...:

Order a main course and the salad bar is gratis – and you can go as many times as you like. (JW, October 2011)

Had a great evening out. Not shy with the helpings. Relaxed warm ambience. Good food, good value.

This review is for Karoo Cattle and Lamb Rosebank. All I can say, is avoid it! Although it is newly opened, I doubt that their suppliers will change - the meat is of low quality, badly prepared (my ribs were room temperature). My husband had the Karoo Braai - the boerewors was questionable. The free salad bar is a sorry attempt at a value add offering. Lastly (and this is not the stablishment's fault), we had an attempted credit card skimming from our waiter, who we caught red handed (he ran away). My issue: we got a half hearted "sorry" from the manager, who still charged us for the meal! I'm not into freebies, but surely he could have done something! There are many divine restaurants in Rosebank - avoid this one!

The portions are generous and the food is good, but our food must have stood for some time before being served - it was not piping hot. Unfortunately, my dessert was hotter than my steak. Drinks are a bit pricey too.
