Mozzarella Bar

The first dedicated mozzarella bar in SA, Giorgio Nava's newest culinary venture is any fromage fan's dream. Exclusively stocking mozzarella made by the erstwhile Italian cheese makers, Puglia, the café stocks everything from milky, hand-pulled fior di latte and nodini to smoke-cured affumicatta. The menu is uncomplicated and hearty. Cure your cholesterol cravings with a ham, tomato and mozzarella panzerotto or a deep-fried fior di latte sarmie, or woo your sweetheart with a cheese and charcuterie platter.

Yes, the mozzarella is excellent. And so are the sandwiches that come with it. The real treat is the deep fried mozzarella toast; be brave and try it with anchovies - you will feel like you are in Naples. Coffee is also worth every little penny. Mozzarella Bar is the perfect spot when quality carbs is on the wish list, or - like the Italians do it - when you need a quick bite for breakfast or lunch. The place is very small and basic, smells heavenly, and no fuss. I'd say the service is more on the French side, than Italian style - not very charming. Having lived in France I've learnt not to take it personally, but there is room for improvement here.
