De Huguenot

For more formal dining, De Huguenot restaurant is a generously sized room with fireplaces, has the most magnificent view onto the Groot Drakenstein mountains and looks onto a massive oak tree, the valley and the mountains. The walls are painted a soothing grey and Chef Tanja Kruger will be focusing on using the freshest produce to prepare her food on Slow Food principles.

Simply stunning.

The setting and architecture of the property and its extents are just perfect in style and character with the region, the interior has many different facets and offers something that should suit all tastes.



The service was good, and had a very personal touch from the owners checking on the guests at all times which made one feel valued.



The food:

Presentation 9/10

Taste 9/10.

The flavours really complimented each other perfectly as we each enjoyed the Chalmar beef Sirloin for a main course which was done to perfection, and a choice of desserts being the Valrhona dark chocolate fondant and Passion fruit Souffle, and one must say “wow”.

I don’t often get blown away by every area a restaurant has to offer, even the wine list selection has been excellently chosen, and one must mention that the prices of the food and wine are very reasonable for what you get, I would highly recommend ‘de Huguenot’ to anyone wanting a great lunch or supper, I will definitely be back.

I personally think the magnificent Franschhoek mountain view at this new restaurant surpasses Waterkloof's view, but then I have always been a mountains person. A new restaurant with an interesting menu. Two of us went on a "voucher" lunch which consisted of a main meal of a beautifully prepared sirloin, two miniscule blocks of meat from the rib section, and two small balls which tasted like meat marrow, a lovely smokey mash and a very good jus (so good we asked for more, very plebian). Then dessert, a good passion fruit souffle. As a new restaurant, the service is not brilliant, but they are trying hard and everyone is very willing. Typical of restaurants, a bottle of wine I buy for R90, cost about R250, so our voucher lunch with two glasses of champagne, a bottle of sparkling water, a bottle of wine and two desserts (excluding the main meal), cost about R380 (because of the wine)! The wine list is small, and as with many restaurants I think the wines are marked up too much. We will be back, however, even if it just to gaze at the mountains.

Thank you for the review. As owner manager of deHuguenot, just a correction on the wine price, the Thelema Chardonnay was charged at R205/bottle, not R250. The Colmant MCC was R35/glass.
