Food:

Its bistro-style fare has made Junipa’s hugely popular. The Roman polenta gnocchi is divine and decadent, and there’s a new twist on the classic Caesar: crispy confit of duck and sour cherries replace the anchovy. The lamb burger with guacamole and caramelised onions is clearly a favourite. An on-site bakery provides a range of stunning bread to accompany the cheese platters or the duck and porcini pâté. They are popular for their breakfasts and always have a selection of more unusual freshly squeezed juices.

Wine:

A compact, but reasonable, wine list with some options by the glass.

Service:

It can be erratic when the place is pumping, and sometimes those on the terrace have to battle to catch the waiter’s attention. The manager seems to focus on the inside restaurant.

Ambience:

Modern, with clean lines and a large outside terrace for alfresco dining. (Although you do overlook the ubiquitous Jozi parking lot!)

And...:

Alongside the restaurant is the artisan bakery, which specialises in bread, croissants, patisserie, pies and muffins. Pop in and take something home with you. (September 2011, JW)
