Owner's description

A stylish, cozy take on the local pub concept, Hogshead serves updated versions of pub classics like pies, bangers and mash and fish and chips. There are also design-your-own pizzas and salads as well as a wide variety of bar snacks and desserts. The pub has a wide range of draught beers on tap, including an in-house brew, as well as a reasonable wine list for the less beer-inclined. Nine big-screen TVs display current live sporting events, while free Wi-Fi provides further possible entertainment. Kids are welcome and have their own menu as well as a play area where they can amuse themselves while parents watch over them from the spacious deck.

Two of my friends and myself went to Hogshead Douglasdale for a quick pub lunch yesterday (Friday 11 July) .
One of my friends and myself ordered the Beer battered fish and chips and the third person in our party ordered a burger.
When the food arrived I grabbed the salt grinder turned it over to grind some salt onto my food, only to have the entire contents of the salt grinder land up on my plate. Someone had obviously loosened the top and left it like that.
I do not know where the Hogshead gets there fish from, but it was the most awful fish that I have ever eaten. It was a slimey fishy mush in batter.
My friends fish was exactly the same. When we complained the chef came out and basically told us that the fish was Hake and that it was not a firm fish and that is how it is. I have had Hake on many occasions before and know that there was something wrong with that Hake at Hogshead.
The chef left after not really apologising and as there was no offer to rectify the situation, I ordered a doggy bag and took the two halves of fish home for my dog.
I don't think that I will be eating there in a hurry again.

Had never been a huge fan of the heavy unhealthy feel of the food at Hogshead. I understand the concept of pub food and that's what it is all about. Last night I had no option but to go there. Not being a fussy person I was ready to give it another go. I ordered the '"whole hog" burger. I cut it in half and did notice a "different" smell as I brought it up for the first bite. I thought it was maybe just me and proceeded to eat it. This morning I woke up to hectic stomach cramps and the burger/smell came to my head right away. I did find out that the only one other person I knew that also had a burger last night (a friend of a friend that wasn't part of my table) also had the exact same issue today. Dodgy!
