Owner's description

Coobs sources their produce from local suppliers and organic farms to create unique modern bistro-style food. Close to 75% of ingredients come from their organic farm in the Magaliesburg. The farm has been part of Chef James Diacks family for more than 20 years and is now the main source for his food. Everything from vegetables and herbs to pork, lamb and wild boar is free-range and organic. The restaurant does all it can to recycle and reuse all waste, in keeping with the organic and green image.

Very disappointing experience. Meals were below average (half thawed goats cheese tortellini and raw tomoto puree masquerading as tomato jus). Pathetically weak management and zero accountability. Will never return.
I’m sure many people don’t know but Coobs which used to reside in Parkhurst on 4th avenue has reopened in Parktown North next to its sister restaurant Il Contadino. Some websites say it’s permanently closed which is not true. So I thought I would let all you lovely people that they’re operating and their food is out of this world. Their decor is super funky. They have a green wall at the back with hanging apples. Waiters are very friendly, COVID protocols are all in place and the service is brilliant. When we went the other night we opted for the Beef Tartare, and guys, I’m from Paris. It’s just as good as in France, but probably better presented than there. I also had the line fish served with bulgur wheat, marrow, Brussels sprouts, pea purée and parsley lemon butter. 🐠 The rest of my table all had delicious meals, from the wild boar ragu and fresh pasta, to the chicken curry, etc... Definitely worth the visit!
Coobs recently re-opened in its new cozy location in Parktown-North, and our second visit for dinner has been very rewarding. Still serving fresh, tasty and nourishing food (with ingredients from the Magaliesburg farm), complimented by a fairly priced wine list (and a quirky little tasting room!) and attentive service. This will most probably become one of our neighbourhood hangouts!
