96 Winery Road (Stellenbosch)

Simple food cooked with care and generosity plus a warm fireside seating is what you’ll get at this long-standing favourite. Order a bottle of red and settle in for legendary aged steaks, duck-and-cherry pie, aubergine lasagna or croquettes of Wagyu brisket. End off with the exemplary crème brûlée.

Bosman’s Restaurant (Paarl) 🍽

With three wood-burning fireplaces (two inside the restaurant and one in the private dining area), Bosman’s is sure to offer you warmth this winter.

Cavalli Estate (Somerset West) 🍽

This modern restaurant stays warm in winter, thanks to a fireplace. Start your food adventure with Saldanha Bay Oysters served with new potato fondant, pickled cucumber, caviar, squid-ink aïoli and oyster emulsion, before moving on to the grilled springbok loin with smoked beetroot, red cabbage, spiced cashew and stout.

Delheim (Stellenbosch)

The log-burning fireplace warms up the restaurant at this famous wine estate. Nibble your way through a cheese board, or go for Delheim classics like the fragrant ostrich bobotie, or the slow-braised lamb shank.

Guardian Peak Winery & Grill (Stellenbosch)

The large wood-burning fireplace is very prominently placed at this fabulous spot with spectacular views. Go for the indulgent creamy peri-peri chicken livers, Dijon mustard eisbein with mashed potatoes and Chardonnay-braised cabbage; and baked cheesecake serve with whipped cream and mixed berry compote.

Indochine (Stellenbosch) 🍽

Cosy up for some beautiful Asian-inspired food and gorgeous views at this fine-dining restaurant. Book a table next to the roaring fireplace and settle in with dishes like Gochujang smoked pork loin with white kimchi or pickled tuna with watermelon.

Le Pommier Wine Estate (Stellenbosch)

This family-style restaurant offers relaxed country food with a fireplace in each room, as well as another outside. Enjoy traditional dishes like Malay chicken curry, bobotie and warming potjie, or go for specialities like the lamb shank or chicken supreme with a creamy cheese sauce.

Makaron at Majeka House (Stellenbosch)

Find a spot near the fireplace in the sumptuous lounge area while sipping your cocktail or digestif, or settle near the hearth in the elegant dining room. Here you can enjoy a feast of tapas-style small plates with dishes comprising celeriac risotto, horseradish and turnip; and octopus, fig, suurvygie (succulent sour fig from the coastal area) and saltbush. Restaurant Jardine (Stellenbosch)

Beat the winter chill beside the large fireplace in an enclosed courtyard-like interior. Expect comforts like Jerusalem artichoke and goat’s cheese pithivier, quince and toasted walnut dressing; aged Chalmar fillet, soft herb crust, broccoli, anchovy and garlic; and valrhona chocolate brownie for a sweet ending. The Restaurant at Waterkloof (Somerset West) 🍽

The open-plan dining room at SA’s reigning number one restaurant is warmed by the crackle of a central fireplace. Expect exquisitely executed food from head chef Gregory Czarnecki like marinated artichokes, anchovy, coriander and hazelnut paired with Circumstance Sauvignon Blanc 2017; lamb shoulder with ras el hanout and aubergine paired with Circumstance Cabernet Sauvignon 2016; and camembert crème brûlée paired with Circumstance Chenin Blanc 2018 from the tasting menu.
