Breakaway Café (City Bowl)

This quaint coffee shop is situated on the Cape Town fan walk, at the junction of the Green Point and Bree Street bicycle lanes. The café, which forms a part of Up Cycles bike rental, serves up great Deluxe coffees and superfood smoothies as well as light meals and early-bird specials. Park your bicycle for a service and sit down for a croissant, or grab fresh juice to go. It’s a perfect stop for those who cycle to the office. There’s also free WiFi for those who like to work on the move.

The Handle Bar (City Bowl)

This pop-up cycling café on Cape Town’s bustling foreshore offers cyclists and office workers a place to perch for delicious coffee. Ride by and grab a Deluxe coffee or juice of your choice or grab a seat on the sidewalk and refuel on gluten-free muffins, granola, croissants, salads and toasted ciabattas. They repair bikes and sell cycling gear and accessories in the shop.

Starling and Hero Bicycle Café (Woodstock)

In addition to being a bicycle showroom and retail space for cycling gear, this hip spot also boasts a café. Guests can grab on-the-go snacks, freshly baked cakes, energising coffee and a variety of freshly made juices and detox smoothies. The menu also offers a range of tasty omelettes and sandwiches. Leave your bicycle for a tune-up while you tuck into your fare of choice. There’s also a workbench and tools available for anyone to use. Don’t miss boerie-and-beer Fridays.

NRG at Trail and Tar (Tokai)

Besides being a running and cycling store, this Tokai gem is also home to NRG Coffee Bar. Cyclist and sport enthusiasts can rest up here or refuel with health smoothies and raw food. The aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle through selling of ingredients and equipment, so customers can continue with their healthy nutrition at home. You’ll also find Kamili coffee to go.

Ride In (Stellenbosch)

This relaxed café, situated in the beautiful gardens in Jonkershoek, offers fresh, locally sourced produce on a menu that boasts all-day breakfasts, bagels, salads and tempting baked treats. There are also options for those with intolerances and dietary requirements. Situated just 4km from the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve and a scenic cycle track, the venue cleverly boasts shower facilities, bike hire and a bike wash, too. There’s a kiddies’ cycle track and a large play area for the little ones, too.
