Enjoying your fresh produce in all its crunchy, uncooked goodness is not only delicious and the perfect way to eat over summer, it also packs a serious nutritional and antioxidant punch. An easy way to make sure you’re getting all the good stuff you need in your daily diet is to eat a rainbow of fresh fruit and veg – think red (peppers, tomatoes, beetroot, strawberries, raspberries), purple (blueberries, blackberries, cherries), green (broccoli, spinach, kale, celery), orange (carrots, papaya, butternut) and yellow (pineapple, peppers). The deeper the hue, the better for you! Here are five spots to get your raw fix around South Africa.

Earthmother Organic (Windermere)

Almost 60% of the menu at this charming cafe and store is raw. Try a power mix salad with avo, greens and cashew cheese, or a Thai nut salad with a spicy apple-cider vinegar dressing. After something sweet? Try one of the raw desserts like the raw chocolate cake, which is also wheat- and gluten-free.

The Greenside Cafe (Greenside)

Tuck into raw wraps filled with a rainbow of fresh produce. Wraps might be made from apple and banana, or bell peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, avo and apples. Also try one of the brightly coloured fresh salads.

Leafy Greens Cafe (Muldersdrift)

This wonderful vegan spot sources a large amount of produce from its own organic garden. Try raw rice-paper rolls, salads or the popular raw pizza. Take a wander among fig trees, rhubarb bushes, cascades of nasturtiums, sweet piquant peppers and pecan trees before you leave.

Scheckter’s RAW (Sea Point)

This trendy little vegetarian spot offers several raw dishes, including organic cakes and treats. Tuck into raw zucchini pasta with sunflower seed, lemon pesto, sun-dried tomato and agave syrup, or opt for a raw organic superfood smoothie to get your rainbow of veggies and fruit.

Raw & Roxy (Bree St)

This raw vegan restaurant and store serves up some genuinely delicious dishes. Try a morning glory bowl with red berry smoothie, chia seed pudding, dehydrated granola and cashew-vanilla milk for breakfast. Looking for a treat? Go for the raw vegan walnut, date and cacao brownie, or a raw vegan chocolate bar with salty date caramel, peanut butter, peanuts and coconut.
