5 places to order health-packed superfood lattes in Cape Town

While there’s nothing wrong with a good cuppa coffee in the morning, it’s the pastel-hued health lattes that are flooding our Instagram feeds these days. Whether made with turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties, beetroot for lower blood pressure, or matcha for an antioxidant boost, these trendy superfood drinks are delicious alternatives to coffee. Here are five spots in Cape Town to go sip on your next health latte.

Bootlegger Coffee Company (Bakoven, Green Point, Kalk Bay, Kenilworth, Muizenberg, Sea Point, Tokai)

This coffee company serves health lattes at all its Cape Town stores; look out for ‘functional flat whites’ on the menu. The colourful blends are supplied by Superlatte and include turmeric with coconut oil, cinnamon and almond milk (R32), beetroot with cocoa and ginger (R32), and matcha (R35).

Giulio’s (City Bowl)

This City Bowl lunch spot might specialise in hearty Italian-inspired café food, but its healthy options are also pretty delicious. The superfood drinks here include a warming golden latte with turmeric; red velvet latte with beetroot; and matcha with a kick of green tea (R35). The beautiful pastel drinks are also served in glass tumblers to show off their pretty colours.

Pajamas & Jam Eatery (Strand)

Stunning, Instagram-worthy food and drinks are what you’ll find at this attractive café. The team keeps things wholesome and healthy with creative options of health lattes. The hot-pink beetroot flat white has a touch of rose added for a depth of flavour, and the turmeric version has a warm sprinkling of turmeric over the froth. Fans of the black food trend might even find an activated charcoal latte on the menu.

Scheckter’s Raw (Sea Point)

This vegan eatery keeps things beautiful and interesting with fresh and healthy grub. (It’s also one of the first spots to bring the matcha latte to town.) You’ll be able to order yours for R35 – plus, it’s organic. Other warm superfood drinks include the golden latte with turmeric, or a chaga mushroom chai tea.
