9 great coffee specials in Cape Town

Capetonians are spoilt for choice when it comes to great coffee. In the City Bowl particularly, artisan roasters seem to outnumber ATMs. But while having artisan coffee on your doorstep – or within walking distance of your office – is a definite boon, the expense certainly adds up. Try one of these great coffee specials to stay caffeinated without breaking the bank.

Arnold’s Restaurant (Gardens)

This Kloof Street favourite offers an early-bird coffee special on weekends. All regular-sized coffees are R10 on Saturdays and Sundays before 9.30am.

Breakaway Cafe (Waterkant St)

Between 7am and 9am, this bicycle cafe offers flat whites, Americanos and espressos for R12, and cappuccinos and lattes for R15. All coffees are made with their Deluxe house blend and come standard as a double shot.

Bootlegger (Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Kenilworth)

Get an Americano, flat white, cortado, espresso or macchiato for R14 between 6.30am and 8.30am at all branches.

Clarke’s (Bree Street)

All coffees are R12 from Monday to Friday between 7am and 8am. (Plus, from 8am to 9am you can get two farm eggs on toast with coffee or an orange juice for just R25.)

Giulio’s Cafe (Loop Street)

This stylish Italian cafe is currently running a coffee special between 7am and 9am on weekdays. All coffees made with the café’s Deluxe blend are R14 for early birds.

Knead (Dean Street, Palmyra and Wembley)

The glorious bakery offers an early-bird menu at selected branches. All standard coffees (cappuccinos, Americanos, lattes, espressos, cortados, flat whites and macchiatos) are R10 on the menu. There are also some very affordable breakfasts, including bircher muesli for R18, scrambled egg on toast for R22, and bacon-and-egg rolls with coffee for R30. The special runs Monday to Friday, but times vary for the different branches. Visit Dean Street between 7am and 9am, Wembley between 7.30am and 8.30am and Palmyra between 7am and 8am.

Lunchworks (Waterkant Street)

Order any dish from the breakfast menu between 8am and 10am and get any coffee for R10.

Table Thirteen (De Waterkant)

On weekdays, between 7am and 11am, order any breakfast (which range in price from R65 to 95) and receive a bottomless cappuccino.
