Could this be the best avocado dish in South Africa?

Sponsored by South African Avocado Growers’ Association

Last month, we asked you to nominate your favourite avo dish at any restaurant in South Africa. While we received tons of delicious avo entries from avo-laden pizzas to avocado ritz, the most-voted for dish was a Mexican favourite made by Cosecha at Noble Hill Wine Estate, Paarl.

The winning dish? Their simple, zesty guacamole. This glorious showcase of the fruit is made from locally farmed avos (seasonality permitting), crushed table-side by specially trained waiters called ‘guacistadors’. The bright green concoction is mixed and served in a big mortar and pestle and is seasoned with fresh chilli, coriander, garlic, spring onion, tomato and a blend of fiery homemade spices. The signature starter is then served with warm tortilla chips for the ultimate pre-lunch appetiser.

This season for the first time, Cosecha are also offering some delicious new additions for the guacamole, which include bacon, blue cheese, or pickled jalapeño.

The competition was sponsored by South African Avocado Growers’ Association who awarded R5 000 cash to lucky Eat Out reader, Janine Le Grange, chosen at random from those who entered their recommendations.avo3
