Boschendal Style Award nominee: Pierneef a La Motte

Situated on the beautiful La Motte wine estate, this elegant Franschhoek restaurant explores our rich heritage – both in food and design.

The restaurant:
Designer by Christo Barnard subtly wove the owner's love for a South African master into the design, with gorgeous custom furniture by Pierre Cronje and James Mudge.

The food:
Chef Chris Erasmus explores Cape food, from the past centuries going to great lengths to reinvigorate old, forgotten recipes. Ingredients are seasonal, and many of them hail from theestate’s own organic garden. Currently, we hear Chris is experimenting with lacto-fermentation and herbal oils.

And right now? Chris recommends the shiraz sourdough bread, made with dehydrated shiraz powder.

The x-factor:
Classy, contemporary and elegant, with a subtle nod to their artist namesake, South African master, Jacobus Hendrik Pierneef. Some of the famous artist's motifs have inspired the furniture and are also silk-screened onto seatback covers.

Best of all, a floor-to-ceiling glass wall makes for glorious indoor-outdoor dining, of the variety only available in the winelands.

Does Pierneef à La Motte have what it takes to win the Boschendal Style Award at the Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards?
