Cape Town’s first crab shack opens this Friday

An American-inspired crab shack and barbeque restaurant is set to open this Friday in the buzzing spot previously occupied by Jackal and Hyde on upper Kloof Street.

The Deckhouse Crab Shack and BBQ, headed by Arnot Van Zyl of Manna Epicure, will serve up grub like hearty shellfish barbeques inspired by Gulf Coast crab shacks.

Diners can look forward to seafood delights such as crayfish tails, crab-and-shrimp nachos, crab cakes, crab-and-mussel pots and shrimp popcorn. Those who are not fans of seafood can opt instead for the various barbecue ribs dishes or a bucket of marinated chicken wings. Breakfasts and brunches will be served with offering including pancakes, eggs Benedict and cinnamon buns.

Situated in prime position high up on Kloof Street, this beach shack aims to offer a place to relax and tuck into American soul food while gazing at the view of Table Mountain.
