The team from the popular Coobs bistro in Parkhurst is set to open a brand-new spot, The National, on a side street in the suburb of Parktown North. The informal restaurant will offer sidewalk dining as well as a small bar with a separate bar menu.
The food offering will be based on locally sourced ingredients that are organically grown and free-range, most of them hailing from the farm Brightside in the Magaliesberg, which belongs to chef James Diack’s family. The restaurant will be equipped with a Texan smoker, which makes for a dedicated section on the menu that includes dishes such as pork tacos, smoked pork or chicken Cubanos, and smoky macaroni cheese with wild boar bacon. Another section features bowl-food such as pulled pork confit with coconut rice, veggie broths and spicy paella. Also on the menu are salads, burgers, pastas, steak and seafood.
