Cape Town’s popular ice-cream sandwich truck, Crumbs & Cream, made waves when it opened its first standalone shop in Sea Point last year. Now, the dessert bar has opened a colourful new branch in Johannesburg’s trendy Illovo Junction.

Crumbs & Cream offers a range of ice-cream sandwiches, assembled to order with your choice of Italian gelato and deliciously chewy homemade cookies. The gelato flavours are constantly changing, but at any given time there could be classics like chocolate, vanilla and choc mint, or more inventive options like lemon meringue, Turkish delight and banana fudge. There’s also a refreshing vegan sorbet.

As for the cookies, expect the likes of Oreos, brownie cookies, pretzel choc-chip biscuits and rainbow cookies (studded with hundreds and thousands). Banting-friendly churro and chocolate brownie cookies are also available.

If that’s not indulgent enough, customers can add a spread to their order – think Nutella, peanut butter and dulce de leche – as well as toppings like mini Smarties, coconut, Oreos, cookie crumbs and white-chocolate chips. They’ll also be able to take home their own DIY cookie-sandwich kits, perfect for parties and home entertaining.

The new store is situated at the Illovo Junction on the corner of Oxford Road and Corlett Drive, Johannesburg, and will be scooping and sandwiching from 11am to 11pm daily.
