Guy Fieri, the host of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, to open restaurant in SA

Guy Fieri, the man who brought us the word funkalicious, frosty-tipped facial hair, and trashcan nachos (yes), is opening a restaurant in our capital city.

Sunday Times recently reported that the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives presenter will open Guy Fieri’s Kitchen + Bar at the new Time Square hotel and casino development in Menlyn, Pretoria, on 1 April.

This restaurant is one of three to open at the centre, powered by Sun International. The others have already been pegged by respected restaurateur Fortunato Mazzone (which we revealed in January) and musician, personality and Eat Out critic J’Something (which we reported on in early February).

Fieri fans can look forward to artery-clogging fare like his signature bacon, mac and cheese burger, barbecued pulled-pork sandwiches and buffalo wings, washed down with crowd-pleasing craft cocktails. Local flavours like peri peri and springbok might also appear.

The slang-slinging personality is credited for attracting an unprecedented number of Average Joes to American food TV, an arena previously occupied by the likes of soft-spoken Ina Garten and her perfectly arranged lilies.

As proof that Guy knows his target market well, the Pretoria restaurant will have a mechanical bull, on which guests have been invited to ride to Flavourtown.

Giddyup!
