Guy Fieri, the man who brought us the word funkalicious, frosty-tipped facial hair, and trashcan nachos (yes), is opening a restaurant in our capital city.
Sunday Times recently reported that the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives presenter will open Guy Fieri’s Kitchen + Bar at the new Time Square hotel and casino development in Menlyn, Pretoria, on 1 April.

This restaurant is one of three to open at the centre, powered by Sun International. The others have already been pegged by respected restaurateur Fortunato Mazzone (which we revealed in January) and musician, personality and Eat Out critic J’Something (which we reported on in early February).
Fieri fans can look forward to artery-clogging fare like his signature bacon, mac and cheese burger, barbecued pulled-pork sandwiches and buffalo wings, washed down with crowd-pleasing craft cocktails. Local flavours like peri peri and springbok might also appear.
The slang-slinging personality is credited for attracting an unprecedented number of Average Joes to American food TV, an arena previously occupied by the likes of soft-spoken Ina Garten and her perfectly arranged lilies.
As proof that Guy knows his target market well, the Pretoria restaurant will have a mechanical bull, on which guests have been invited to ride to Flavourtown.
Giddyup!
“a mechanical bull, on which guests have been invited to ride to Flavourtown.” I can’t wait.
Just had 2 of the different burgers at the new restaurant. The mac and cheese burger and the normal cheese burger. Apart from the over ridiculous price of the burgers, the burgers are tasteless and lack flavour. Also ordered a milkshake and was told they the ice cream is out of stock, this on the second day they are open. I’m sorry but rocamamas is much better and per burger, half the price! Sorry guy, won’t see me at your restaurant again,
From Durban visiting family. visited Guy’s on 9 April.A disappointment indexes. All drinks served but told milkshakes gonna be a while then later its unavailable. Ordered chicken wings, full portion ribs, the roll with bacon, cheese and fried onions. Small portions, terribly overpriced and tasteless food. Will not recommend and there are far better restaurants with superior quality food. In terms of pricing definitely not a family restaurant.
Completely overpriced and the worst service ever!
Very disappointing. Such a big fan of Guy but the menu and food at this restaurant is very dissappointing. Overpriced, lack of flavour… nothing like he presents meals on TV. A very very big let down!
Was very excited to visit the restaurant. Utter disappointment. Veggie medley served with chicken wings looked like it was from a week ago. Ribs was dried out. Very overpriced menu. Unfortunately will not see me again!
We were very excited to try his place out. It was terrible. Nobody even greeted us when we arrived. Nobody was even at the front desk. Drinks took forever to come. Food arrived and it was cold. When we sent it back to be warmed, our plates came back with only half the food. The service was terrible. Will not recommend or ever go there again. Major letdown, not to mention the prices!
Bull was dead, trash can nachos was cold and wet with almost no toppings, three cheese filling was water and Maizena flour, service took time but the beer was nice and my team won the game so i might go back for the Rugby and to give the bull a 10cc injection of Oxytetracycline.
