Eat cookies, make a difference

On 14 September bakers, bloggers and biscuit lovers from across the country will get together for a National Cookie Swap (#cookieswap3). Inspired by the annual New York cookie swap, the event will see any interested parties (not necessarily cooks or foodies) get together to do exactly that: swap cookies. Held twice before – in 2011 and at the end of 2012 – this year’s event is promising to be bigger, better and, well, yummier.

How, where, when?

It’s super easy. You don’t have to be a foodie, baker or cook. Bake (or buy…) forty cookies, put them in a big container and show up at the designated venue and time. Pay your R50 entrance fee and start mingling and swapping cookies with other bakers.

The swapping will take place at the following places and times:
Cape Town: Dear Me at 12 noon
Durban: Piatto at 12 noon
Johannesburg: Moemas at 3pm

Why?

All proceeds will go to Khayelitsha Cookies, a company that was created to not only bake beautiful biscuits, but to change the lives of everyone involved with them. They hire previously unemployed women from the area, and then train and skill them in permanent, affirming employment.
