Feeling flush after payday and looking for somewhere to spend your hard-earned pay check? Our compilation of the most-viewed venues for February should do the trick. (This list shows what people are searching for on eatout.co.za, compiled using statistics of the most-viewed restaurant listings in February 2017.)

 

Johannesburg

1. Marble by David Higgs (Rosebank)

2. San Deck at Sandton Sun Hotel (Sandton)

Ideal for warm evenings, this spot is ideal for after-work drinks with cocktail plates and a vibey atmosphere.

3. Sin + Tax (Rosebank)

Mixologist Julian Short is responsible for this trendy, sneaky cocktail bar adjoining Coalition on Bolton Road.

4. Craft (Parkhurst)

This perennial favourite is still keeping locals happy with great burgers, wacky desserts and OTT milkshakes.

5. EB Social Kitchen & Bar (Hyde Park)

The menu by chef Russell Armstrong is designed for sharing. Highlights have included spiced ratatouille and slow-braised duck leg with grilled radicchio and fondant potatoes.

6. AtholPlace Restaurant (Sandton)

Situated in a boutique hotel, AtholPlace is a member of the Relais & Châteaux collection and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

7. Bolton Road Collection (Rosebank)

This restaurant’s menu has an interesting selection of dishes made for sharing. The tonka-bean panna cotta has had rave reviews.

Jamie’s Italian in Melrose Arch is buzzing with locals looking for accessible, comforting food.

9. DW Eleven-13 (Dunkeld West)

Acclaimed chef Marthinus Ferreira’s cooking still delights patrons with morsels celebrating molecular gastronomy with classical undertones.

10. 1Fox – The Sheds (Fordsburg)

Look out for OTT desserts, Pionieri Pizza and TG Soulfood by Top Chef SA entrant Tyrone Geduld at this market venue.

Pretoria

1. Black Bamboo (Ashlea Gardens)

Chef Pellie Grobler offers well balanced and delicately flavoured food such as Cape curry-pickled fish and kingklip with tiger prawns or springbok loin with chickpeas and a bonemarrow croquette.

2. Restaurant Mosaic at The Orient (Elandsfontein)

Chef Chantel Dartnall continues to amaze with her whimsical, exquisitely presented food at this 2016 Top 10 fine-dining restaurant.

3. Hemingways Restaurant & Wine Cellar (Centurion)

This elegant restaurant offers classic French fare with a contemporary Provençal twist. Expect to see dishes like fried brie, fillet with pomme purée, and chocolate fondant.

4. Fermier Restaurant (The Willows)

Located on a biodynamic farm, Adriaan Maree’s fine-dining restaurant is doing groundbreaking things. Dishes have included squid tagliatelle, quail with black-eyed beans, and dark chocolate with balsamic blackberries.

5. 16th Lintel (Centurion)

Located at Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel, 16th Lintel offers a menu with a South African and global twist. Expect dishes of vegetarian samosas, crocodile carpaccio, venison pot pie, and Amarula cheesecake.

6. Afro-boer (Die Wilgers)

This pretty café serves up a clever mix of Afrikaans classics and contemporary cool treats.

7. La Terrasse Rooftop Café & Deli (Menlo Park)

This romantic rooftop spot offers guests flavours of North Africa with its meze platters and fragrant tagines.

8. Granita @ Kievits Kroon (Kameeldrift-East)

Look forward to the likes of beetroot and goat’s cheesecake; a trio of seafood; roasted lamb rump; and panna cotta, sorbet and butterscotch sauce.

9. Brasserie de Paris (Waterkloof Ridge)

Look forward to rib-sticking grub with options of classic crumbed mushrooms, pork belly and sauerkraut, and a sweet apple strudel.

Durban

1. The Chefs Table (Umhlanga Rocks)

Chef Kayla-Ann Osborn’s open plan kitchen serves up ever-changing seasonal dishes in a gorgeous setting. Past dishes have included roasted beetroot with truffled goat’s cheese, gnocchi with whipped feta and asparagus, and baked mousse with flavours of liquorice.

2. Story Durban (Morningside)

This new Morningside restaurant prides itself on innovative dishes made with fresh local produce. The seasonal menu features items like fresh mussels with herbed bread, venison with smashed potato, and a pavlova log with berry mousse.

3. Jaipur Palace (Durban North)

The curry buffet here remains incredibly popular in this spacious setting.

4. Woodstock Music, Bar & Bistro (Glenashley)

This newly opened bar and bistro offers locals a taste of Woodstock with its retro-themed décor and music.

7. Krispy Kreme (Gateway)
The USA doughnut brand is bringing its glazed treats to the East Coast shores with a new Umhlanga branch.

3. The Village Idiot (City Bowl)

Balmy balconies, a large bar and great pub grub is what keeps this City Bowl venue on our most-read list.

4. Hokey Poke (City Bowl)

This new kid on the block is serving up ultra-fresh, on-trend poké bowls with the option to build your own, or choose from one of the exciting combinations.

The views are spectacular and so is the food. Ivor Jones is cooking up some pretty glorious food at this Constantia wine farm spot.

Locals and tourists flock here for flavours that range from Cape Malay inspired to African cuisine.

Winelands

1. Spek & Bone (Stellenbosch)

Bertus Basson’s more casual venture offers a focus on tapas plates and great wine.

2. Overture Restaurant (Stellenbosch)

Bertus Basson features again with his unpretentious fine-dining restaurant that still delivers moreish dishes with delicious local flavours.

3. The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français (Franschhoek)

Chef Margot Janse’s surprise menu of storytelling cuisine remains a favourite for tourists and locals. Margot will be leaving the restaurant as of 29 April 2017, so book your spot soon to avoid disappointment.

4. Bosjes Kombuis (Breede Valley)

This striking new restaurant is set to open in the Breedekloof area this March and will feature a menu by Pete Goffe-Wood.
