Luxury Franschhoek guesthouse Le Petit Manoir has announced that chef Kevin Grobler will be heading up the kitchen in its new fine-dining restaurant on Huguenot Road. The young chef joins the team after previously working as head chef at Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen’s Michelin-starred restaurant, JAN, in Nice, France.
Kevin, who reveals that Franschhoek has always been a special place for him and is part of the reason he made the move back to South Africa’s shores, brings a wide range of culinary skills and experience to the Le Petit Manoir’s kitchen after nearly three years at JAN, as well as stints at Terroir and Cavalli. The cuisine at the new restaurant has a focus on a fine-dining experience with a European slant and an emphasis on quality local produce.
The all-day menu features interesting breakfasts like miso croque Madame or chocolate quinoa with whipped coconut cream; a lunchtime tapas offering with options like fresh salmon with smoked tomato broth or braised short-rib with mustard-leaf pesto; and cheese and meat platters. Come dinner, guests can expect a five-course tasting menu, which features dishes like sweet-potato mousse with black garlic; cured and roasted carrot with goat’s cheese mousse; and whiskey tipsy tart with salted caramel mousse for dessert. The venue will also have a deli offering freshly baked breads and pastries, imported and local cheeses, and cured meats.
Le Petit Manoir is open now for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
