Gaze upon this deep-fried gnocchi dessert with Nutella

Look at this deep-fried gnocchi rolled in cinnamon and sugar, covered in warm Nutella and lemon zest. Just look at it.

Can you imagine how the sugar would crunch on your fangs, as soft pillows of gnocchi gave way and your mouth filled with the ooze of warm Nutella, tempered by zingy, fragrant lemon zest?

This glorious dessert can be found at That’s Amore in Parktown North, and is the creation of Roxanne Cruickshank.

“We took some ideas from traditional Italian desserts and, of course, added Nutella – a staple in Italy,” Roxanne explains. The potato-based gnocchi is made in-house before being deep-fried, rolled in cinnamon and sugar and drizzled with warm Nutella and a sprinkling of lemon zest.

So how has the reception been so far?

“Great! Our gnocchi is amazing and very popular, so when we mention we have a dessert gnocchi, there’s much excitement from tables planning to finish the evening off with it.”

The price? It’s yours for R60.

In addition to the dessert gnocchi, you’ll also find a range of other delicious, house-made gnocchi on the menu. Right now, you can choose potato gnocchi with Gorgonzola cream and toasted walnuts, or gnocchi sorentina, which is a white gnocchi with cherry tomatoes and Neapolitan sauce, with imported DOP buffalo mozzarella. And for something different, there is red gnocchi, made with beetroot and pumpkin.
