The Glenwood Bakery has become a firm favourite in the Durban community for perfect breads, glorious breakfasts and lazy pizza evenings. Now the bread-making team is set to kick off a new dining venture in Durban’s Berea suburb. Named The Glenwood Restaurant, the new space will be headed up by master baker and chef Adam Robinson and is taking bookings from 14 April 2016.

Adam and his team have been keeping mum about the new restaurant, but have taken to Facebook to explain a few things. “Despite his passion for bread and the Robinsons’ love for their bakery, Mr. Robinson has sustained an injury to his wrist from making bread.” It then goes on to explain the exciting new developments for the Glenwood favourites: “The Robinsons have, consequently, signed a lease for premises, not in Madrid, not in Johannesburg and never in Cape Town! But in beloved Glenwood.”

The new eatery will see a new team (alongside Adam) from London, including his daughter, Adelaide Robinson, as manager and co-chef John Stayner, who has worked at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze Grill. Diners can expect a small but interesting menu inspired by Adam’s fascination with all things pasta, featuring hand-made dishes such as open squid-ink ravioli with ratatouille and beurre blanc, butternut-and-ricotta rotolo with sage and pine nuts, and pappardelle with mussels and saffron. Comforting classics will also feature on the seasonal selection, such as potato gnocchi with peas and bacon, and porcini-and-oyster-mushroom risotto. The restaurant does not yet have a liquor licence, but guests are invited to bring their own.

The Glenwood Restaurant will be located in a cosy old Berea house and is just a four-minute drive from the bakery. It will be open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday from 14 April, and bookings are essential.
