House of Machines team to open edgy new cocktail bar in Cape Town

Cape Town already has a throng of trendy bars, pubs and cocktail lounges – but we’re particularly excited about news of this one. One of the city’s edgiest coffee spots, bike shop and bar The House of Machines has announced plans to open an electric new speakeasy-style cocktail bar called Outrage of Modesty, or OoM for short.

OoM will be a small bar located next to The House of Machines at 88 Shortmarket Street, and the offering will be bold, exciting cocktails made with top-notch ingredients.

Set to open on 29 November this year, OoM will be a collaboration with Australian bartender and alchemist, Luke “The Wookie” Whearty. Explains OoM owner Brad Armitage, “Luke Whearty’s work embodies what we are about – a bold twist on the traditional; a subversion of the ‘known’.”

To give you a taste of what’s to come from this collaboration, Whearty’s world-renowned bar, Operation Dagger in Singapore, has been described by Condé Nast as a “mad lab crossed with a German minimal techno club”, and serves up cocktails that are made with blowtorches, coffee siphons and burnt hay. You get the picture.
