Is this Durban’s contender for SA’s most Instagrammable coffee shop?

Durban is no stranger to great coffee shops, so it’s no surprise that the energetic Station Drive hub is now home to one of the city’s prettiest spots to get a caffeine fix. Khuluma – which means ‘to speak’ in Zulu – is flooding local Instagram feeds with its pink and emerald hues, good coffee and the best banana bread around.

The hidden gem opened its doors and started pouring its picture-perfect coffees just over a month ago and has already garnered a cult following with Durbanites. The brains behind the brand’s look is designer and owner Faheem Valley, as well as The Vintager’s Amanda Jaffar, who shares a space with Khuluma in the Station Drive’s Warehouse.

The small space boasts indoor and outdoor courtyard seating, where customers can sip on Khuluma House Blend coffees from Wingman Coffee, alternate brews by Noble Coffee and enjoy daytime treats. The menu, which is developed with Kirti Kamal of Gourmet Foods SA, features some seriously tasty simple breakfast and lunch dishes. Think scrambled eggs, avo toast, flatbreads, salads and toasties. A notable mention needs to go to the baked goods, though. The warm, fragrant banana bread is one of the best we’ve had and comes with a generous pat of tangy espresso butter made from the coffee beans. On any given day, you’ll also find a ginger-and-yoghurt cake, croissants, cinnamon buns and malva pudding squares on the counter.

Khuluma is located at The Warehouse at 6 Station Drive and is open every day from 9am to 5pm. Pro tip: Wear pink on Fridays and get R10 off your first coffee.
