Maverick Corner launches with new eateries and bars in Maboneng

Maverick Corner, already a Maboneng landmark, is officially launching with a group of new eateries carefully curated by Propertuity.

The existing venues are Lenin’s Vodka Bar, edgy and revolutionary as ever, with Soma Art + Space upstairs; Soul Souvlaki, which will continue to produce fresh, homemade Greek food; sweet little Cocobel Desserts with its ice creams and frozen yoghurts festooned with sublime toppings; and James XVI, a cosy Ethiopian restaurant that was here even before Maverick Corner existed.

Now the block behind Maverick Corner has been filled out with a few interesting new places in containers, which are set at rakish angles in the soon-to-be green inner courtyard. There are new art and fashion outlets too.

As for the food, visitors can look forward to Stuff Café, with its new breed of decadent hotdog, where footlong sausages are stuffed with nacho cheese and wrapped in bacon before resting in soft dog rolls. Colour Me Healthy will offer fresh-pressed juices in delicious fruit and vegetable combinations – a rainbow of colours. They’re full of goodness but they really taste fantastic, too.

Love Revo Café is a new bistro serving gourmet African-style tapas amongst great conversations and cocktails. Then there’s Thali’s Roadside, where traditional metal plates of the thali are presented with homemade Indian curries and dhals for tastes of sweet, salty, sour, bitter and spicy, including pickles and sweetmeats, to enjoy with roti or rice. To wash it all down, pay a visit to Mix Masters Cocktail Bar, which occupies the courtyard as an outdoor bar, with over 50 showy cocktails and mocktails on offer.

All this, plus music, can be yours at the launch on Thursday 5 May from 5pm to 10pm. Find Maverick Corner at 300 Commissioner Street (corner Albrecht Street) in Maboneng, Johannesburg.
