Where to celebrate Mother’s Day in Durban

While it’s not always easy to find the perfect gift for Mother’s Day, these lavish set menus and bountiful buffets should do the trick. Here’s where to book for Mother’s Day lunch in Durban on 12 May.

9th Avenue Bistro (Morningside)

This modern and elegant eatery is whipping up something extra special for all the moms this Mother’s Day. The lunch, which costs R350 per person, includes mains such as beef fillet; crispy roasted free-range duck; baby lango tail squid ink linguine; lamb belly and neck fillets; and artichoke and truffle risotto. The appetisers and desserts are just as mouthwatering. Booking is essential.

Auberge Hollandaise Guest House (Durban)

This little gem has loads of character, making it ideal for a gorgeous champagne high tea, especially arranged for Mother’s Day. For R245 per person, you’ll receive champagne on arrival, decadent sweets, sandwiches, crostinis and a savoury pastry selection, as well as a selection of teas and coffees. Booking is essential.

Coastlands Musgrave Hotel (Musgrave)

Spend some quality time bonding with your mom over a delicious lunch for R325 (children pay R195). The meal is served from 12pm to 3pm.

Figtree Barn (Camperdown)

Celebrate this special day by taking your mom to the Tala Collection Private Game Reserve. From 12pm, there will be a jazz and champagne luncheon for R295 per person. Booking is essential (and will get you through the entry gate for free).

The Ocean Terrace/The Grill Room (Umhlanga Rocks)

Promising a fun-filled Mother’s Day, the Oyster Box wants you to bring the whole family. The Mother’s Day Lunch includes a children’s buffet, a plated starter and dessert, and a buffet main course for the adults. There will also be live music while you dine. The cost is R590 per person and R290 for children under the age of 11. Booking is essential. Another option is high tea at the Oyster Box, served at The Grill Room from 2.30pm to 5pm. It includes the legendary high tea spread and a complimentary glass of Veuve Clicquot champagne for all moms.

The Royal Hotel (Durban)

The Royal Hotel is hosting a dedicated Mother’s Day lunch. Adults pay R285 and children pay R175.

Saffron Restaurant (Umhlanga)

Take your mom to the Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel for a special lunch at Saffron Restaurant between 12pm and 3pm. There’s also a lunch happening at the African Fires Event Venue on 12 May.

The Square Boutique Hotel (Umhlanga Rocks)

The Sugar Club (Umhlanga Rocks)

Your mom deserves the best, so treat her to a five-star experience at The Beverley Hills Hotel. The Sugar Club restaurant is pulling out all the stops with its buffet lunch that will include traditional roasts, curries and pastas. Your mom will also receive a hand-crafted nougat gift box. Tatso. The Buffet (Umhlanga Rocks)

This could be just the option for you if you don’t like to plan ahead, as there are no bookings required – eating here is on a first come, first served basis. The buffet restaurant, located at Sibaya Casino, offers a wide selection of starters, main courses and tasty desserts at a cost of R295 per person.
