New fine-dining boat restaurant launches at V&A in time for summer

Because nothing says holiday quite like sipping bubbly on a boat, visitors to Cape Town will be happy to have yet another way of cruising the harbour this summer. The Alba, an elegant new restaurant boat, has launched at the V&A Waterfront, with the capacity to seat 72 guests for bubbly brunches, high teas, and fine-dining lunches and dinners with paired wines.

With an enclosed deck of floor-to-ceiling glass windows, The Alba lets in those famous views of Table Mountain and the twinkling harbour regardless of the weather, while it cruises around the marina. Upmarket food and drinks are all-inclusive of the ticket price.

The lunch and dinner menus, which will change every season, have classic dishes but also look after tourists who are keen to sample SA game. Baked camembert with figs and spiced walnuts; Karoo springbok carpaccio; and citrus-cured salmon are on offer for starters. Mains are a choice between beef fillet with roasted bone marrow jus and truffled mash; oven-baked citrus seabass with coriander and chilli, wrapped in a banana leaf; or braised springbok shank with mash and caramelised onion.

The desserts at the Alba

End on sweets like dark chocolate mousse with orange zest or truffles rolled in pistachio with a touch of chilli. The meals are Halaal friendly, and vegetarian and vegan options are available on request. As for drinks, the Durbanville Hills Rhinofields range is available as a wine pairing with each course; alternatively, guests can order beers or soft drinks.

The daily bubbly brunch cruise at 10am offers a cold and hot breakfast spread (R495), and the daily lunch cruise at 1pm offers a three-course plated meal with wine pairing (R595). At 4pm from Monday to Friday and on Sunday, the sunset cruise offers a selection of canapés and cocktails (R595). On Saturdays at 4pm you can opt for the high tea cruise, which offers a selection of sweet and savoury treats (R495). Finally, the daily dinner cruise at 7pm offers a three-course plated meal with wine pairing (R695).

All packages include a glass of bubbly on arrival, and coffee or tea. Children under the age of 12 years are charged at half price. The Alba is accessible to wheelchair users, and offers WiFi for envy-inducing Instagram posts.
