It’s about time for something fresh in the northern suburbs: Enter Skål Bar & Eatery, the new night-time haunt for Brackenfell locals and beyond. Having officially opened last week, the dive bar has an edgy industrial-like feel to it and offers uncomplicated tasty titbits.
The name comes from the Swedish, Norwegian and Danish word for cheers, which in turn has the best anecdote: The word is said to come from Vikings drinking out of the skulls of their enemies. Appropriately, the skull is Skål’s logo, featuring on their chairs and merchandise.
Food offerings at Skål include burgers, hotdogs, ribs and ever-popular chilli poppers. The Buffalo wings made with Jack Daniel’s also seems promising. Wash down your grub with one of their cocktails or on-tap beers.
Expect various quirky décor elements, like a hogs’ heads on the wall above antique pistols and a gold bodice above the bar donning a gas mask.
Go if you’re hip enough.
‘Skål’ is correctly Scandinavian for ‘cheers’. Other than that this did not seem very Scandinavian to me 🙂
Burgers, hotdogs, ribs, Jack Daniels, chilli poppers and pistols?? As far from the Nordic region as you can get really.
But a big ‘skål’ from the far north – good luck with your new establishment!
All the best from me in

Hi. Yes I agree with Floyd. Having a Scandinavian bar then the food should be Scandinavian and I hope u have some traditional alcohol from the Nordic countries as well.
I have been, awesome vibe, awesome place!
Amazing food and everything is right up my ally. However, I would say the place is more tattoo lifestyle inspired than Scandinavian…..
