Statistics reveal that lovers of Mexican food are less likely to support Donald Trump (sort of)

The adage ‘you are what you eat’ just gained a lot more whacky credibility. According to the New York Post, Google analysts have found a notable correlation between the recipes that New Yorkers search for and the politicians they support. To wit: Bernie Sanders has won the Mexican cuisine corner, with large numbers of people Googling both his name and recipes for enchiladas and guacamole.

Looking at Bernie, Mexican food is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. However, a food expert has weighed in, saying that this result isn’t surprising at all given his risky politics. It’s not a far leap, then, to imagine his supporters are more adventurous and thus may be inclined toward spicier food. Similarly, those who searched for Donald Trump also largely searched for more traditional and conservative recipes such as those for rice, flounder and pork chops.

We have questions. Is knowing the food their supporters like going to help the candidates somehow? Will Bernie’s campaigners start handing out burritos? Did Trump’s face just remind searchers of fleshy-lipped flounder? Should we be scared of how much Google knows about us?
