Opening soon: a restaurant aimed at getting Capetonians to talk to each other

On 1 October, Julia Hattingh (previously the head chef at Franschhoek Kitchen) will open the doors to Reverie Social Table. This proudly South African table d’hôte eatery will be located in the quirky neighbourhood of Observatory in Cape Town, and will focus on social dining.

Each evening, Chef Hattingh will welcome guests around her 18-seater table, where they can enjoy a five-course menu created for them and sip on wines to match each course. Guests will be encouraged to put away their cellphones and engage with one another as a way of meeting new people.

By day, the restaurant will offer a relaxed environment where diners can make use of the free Wi-Fi and tuck into the plat du jour, whatever Julia is inspired to whip up that morning. Julia’s contemporary cuisine style is strongly influenced by the chefs that have mentored her throughout her career, respect for the food she works with, her travels, and her hometown of Cape Town with its myriad of cultures and culinary heritage.

Booking is essential for the evening sitting, and both reservations and payment can be made online. Credit card facilities will be available at the restaurant.
