Pancake and wine festival

Lovers of wine and silky golden pancakes should head to Uitkyk Wine Estate on the R44 between Paarl and Stellenbosch this Saturday for the inaugral Pancake Festival.

The one-day celebration on 29 June 2013 will match gourmet pancakes with the estate’s top wines. The Cat and Mouse pairing – a tribute to the farm’s cat, who lived on the roof of the 18th century manor house – features wines from both the Uitkyk and Flat Roof Manor ranges, teamed with delicious savoury pancakes, at R60 per person.

Flat Roof Manor Pinot Grigio is matched with a spicy Thai green curry pancake; Uitkyk Chardonnay with a slow-roasted pumpkin and brie filling; Flat Roof Manor Merlot with a roast chicken, camembert and sage pancake; Flat Roof Manor Shiraz Mourvèdre Viognier with a roast beef, baby spinach and cranberry jelly filling; and Uitkyk Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz with a pancake filled with sautéed onions, mushrooms and Edam cheese.

The festival will consist of two seatings: one at 11am and one at 2pm. There will entertainment for children on the day. Booking is essential and can be made by calling 021 884 4416 or sending an e-mail to bbrand@distell.co.za.
