Partner content: How Butcher Block is taking over steak in SA

After realising that the sunny coast of KZN had no good steakhouses, Manuel Savic set out to change the tide of restaurants in Durban by co-founding Butcher Block in 2003. Since then, the brand has grown into a well-known and highly respected steakhouse franchise.

The expansion

Within a short period of time, Butcher Block has opened many successful branches in both Durban and Johannesburg.

The first restaurant in the heart of Umhlanga is still the place to go to indulge in succulent steaks, with the recent addition of the Florida Road branch adding extra deliciousness to the town.

Expanding out of the east coast, the Joburg takeover began. With stores in Pineslopes, Mall of the South and Blue Hills, Butcher Block has brought the busy city exquisite feasts, friendly service and an all-around enjoyable ambience.

The menu

This steak paradise offers an upmarket, sophisticated menu with heavenly food for lunch and dinner.

The menu begins with starters of plump peeled prawns baked in a creamy garlic-and-cheese sauce topped with cheddar and parmigiana cheese; thin slices of biltong carpaccio; and magnificent Malaysian panko prawns.

Next, diners have the option to delight in delicate, light leafy eats like a chicken Caesar salad, or order hearty dishes like tender steaks, a range of 100% pure beef burgers, or a selection of poultry.

Specially designed Butcher’s Choice Steaks feature succulent cuts loaded with gourmet toppings like peppadew and blue cheese; honey mustard and seasonal avocado; and even an Argentinian classic with a fresh pesto-like sauce.

To end off the evening, those with a sweet tooth can delight in crowd pleasers like deep-fried Oreo, Amarula crème brûlèe and a heavenly triple chocolate brownie.
