The Sunnyside: The Power and the Glory team to open new eatery in old Rafiki’s space

In June last year, beloved watering hole Rafiki’s on Kloof Nek closed its doors for the last time. The casual eatery and popular weekend hangout had come to an end of its seven-year lease and, as a result of some complications, the team decided to move on in the hopes of opening up a branch in Malawi. What’s next for the space? It seems as though the team behind downstairs hipster hangout The Power and the Glory have set up shop for a trendy new eatery called The Sunnyside.

The tasty-looking sneak peeks on Instagram have certainly piqued our interest. Chef Emma Hofmans, the culinary brains behind The Power and The Glory and Hallelujah, looks as though she’ll be also be heading up the kitchen at The Sunnyside, with hints at menu planning and cooking with chef Matthew Tordoff.

While the team is keeping things low key with the details, posts suggest that there’ll be a masonry oven and marble and golden accents to accompany those famed Kloof Nek views.

The opening date? The latest Instagram post states that The Sunnyside will be open for dinner as early as this Saturday, 17 June.
