Remain calm, Capetonians: Yotam Ottolenghi is here

The people of Cape Town are fairly used to famous people by now. There was a time when you couldn’t go out in the evening without bumping into Leonardo di Caprio or Claire Danes. But one recent arrival got our normally stone-like hearts racing: Yotam Ottolenghi is in town. The restaurateur, cookbook author and Guardian recipe columnist is on holiday in the Mother City, and judging by his Instagram posts, he’s not hating it!

The Plenty author has already discovered great tomatoes at OZFM.

He’s eaten salad at Bertus Basson at Spice Route.

He found this impressive corkscrew collection somewhere in Franschhoek. (Bonus points if you can tell us where this is!)

Where will he go next?

Yotam, if you’re reading this, we have a few ideas. First up, you might want to visit a Top 10 restaurant.

We think you might like The Table at De Meye’s incredible sustainable food. (Please take them some rain for their incredible garden if you visit!) Overgaauw Restaurant in Stellenbosch also does beautiful country-style fare. We feel like you’d appreciate the gardens at Babylonstoren, too.

Are you heading out to the Overberg? If you are, we really think you’d like Stanford. There’s some incredible cooking going on in that tiny town.

We know you’re not only about salad – so we hope you had a pasteis da nata from OZFM. You should probably also try some cake from Hemelhuijs. And some chocolate brownies (or basically any pastry) from Jason Bakery (there’s one on Bree Street, and one in Green Point.) And if you get hot, ice cream from Unframed is the solution. While you’re here, you should probably also try a koesister; this handy service delivers them on Sundays.

You could try a food tour of the city.

Or, you know, you could call us. And we’ll drop everything.
