Review: Layered flavours and creative plating at Kream in Pretoria

Wonderfully developed, layered flavours and creative plating make Kream an inspired dining destination in Pretoria, says Bazil Stander.

Food

Kream offers an interesting combination of South African favourites and contemporary fusion food. The menu includes a wide variety of matured steak: choose from fillet, rump or sirloin, served simply grilled or in options like the fillet with grilled bone marrow and truffled bordelaise sauce, and the cognac-flambéed steak with garlic and herb butter.

Standout dishes include roasted quail with bourbon-poached pear, the rack of lamb with slow-roasted garlic and basil jus, and the salmon with shimeji-mushroom risotto, buttered asparagus and hollandaise.
The dessert selection includes some intriguing options like popcorn crème brûlée, chocolate curry panna cotta with coconut ice cream, and goat’s cheese and blueberry cheesecake, as well as some standards like brownies and crêpes Suzette.

Drinks

An extensive and well-curated wine list offers a wide variety of outstanding options by the bottle or glass. You are really spoilt for choice here at almost any price point, ranging from R100 to R800 per bottle. Also have a look at their great list of Champagnes and MCCs, and single-malt whiskeys.
