The buzzing Atlantic Seaboard promenade has gained another crowd-pleasing gem in The Creamery Café. The artisanal ice-cream pioneers have recently opened up this fourth outlet, a sunny spot opposite the popular putt-putt course, to join their cafés in Newlands and Salt River, and the stall in the V&A Market on the Wharf. Tempted by the prospect of ice cream, coffee and warm cookies after a seaside stroll, Nikita Buxton gives into her sweet tooth and pops into The Creamery Café in Mouille Point.

Food

Ice cream flavours include classics such as sea-salt caramel, peanut butter and 65% chocolate, or the seasonal flavours of the month, such as blackberry cheesecake, nectarine, or white chocolate and apricot. There is a range of toppings and sauces, including toasted homemade marshmallow and even a simple drizzle of honey.

The Creamery’s latest creation is exclusive to the Mouille Point branch and involves freshly baked, warm cookies – crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside – and velvety ice cream. These heavenly confections are served warm, with a scoop of your choice of ice cream melting into the freshly baked biscuit. We gobbled ours up with a scoop of pistachio ice cream, but a refreshing strawberry or simple vanilla would work just as well. There are also tubs of ice cream to take home.

Drinks

Rosetta Roastery coffee is the drink of choice but teas and milkshakes are also on offer.

Service

Place your order with the friendly and helpful staff at the counter, take a seat, and wait for your delicious dessert to be served. Alternatively, pick your pudding to go. You can also sample flavours before ordering.

Ambience

The ice-cream-hued shop is bright with Mouille Point’s natural light and has a welcoming beachside parlour feel. It’s a tiny spot, so if there aren’t any seats inside, take your ice cream to the promenade and perch on a bench while watching the waves.

And…

The doors are open until 11pm, which makes The Creamery Café a great stop for a late-night treat.
