Former Great South African Bake Off star to host Royal Wedding tea

Whether you’re a royalist or not, there is no doubt that you’ve noticed that there’s a royal wedding in the works. Kensington Palace’s most eligible bachelor, Prince Harry, is set to wed Megan Markle, previously known for her role in Suits, on Saturday 19 May. Luckily for Joburg locals, you’ll be able to don your best hat and raise your pinky in honour of the pair with a posh high tea at 1Fox Precinct in Ferreirasdorp.  JustTeddy, the artisanal boulangerie and patisserie located in The Sheds, will be hosting a royal wedding-themed tea and screening in celebration of the big day.

The wedding will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle at noon on 19 May. The event will be broadcast live on ITV Choice (channel 123 on DSTV) and for R125 per person, you’ll be able enjoy a large screening of it while tucking into a spread of high tea treats. The menu is crafted by master baker (and former Great South African bake off contestant) Jeffrey Teddy Zaki and features all of the best British-inspired goods. You can start with sticky pigs in a blanket, or mini mushroom Wellingtons, before moving on to the savoury buffet, packed with items such as cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches on rye, Ploughman’s pickle sandwiches and mini pork pies. The sweet offerings includes scones, complete with jam and cream (naturally), mini Victoria sponges and mini Battenberg cakes. To end off, you can enjoy a Chelsea bun macaron, as well as a classic fondant fancy.

Expect all of the appropriate tea-time treats at JustTeddy’s royal wedding tea. Photo supplied.

Reservations can be made via contacting the bakery at drinktea@justteddy.co.za and are highly recommended, as space is limited. Even if you don’t really care for the royals, celebrating in the name of love (and cake) is always a good idea and we can’t think of a fancier way to spend an afternoon.
